Not much sleep tonight

Monday, August 12, 2013

We had a great time Saturday at our annual Brouhaha with my husband's family. Lots of good food and visiting with relatives we only see once a year. I took Sunday off from work because I knew after Saturday I would need to rest. Dick and I did some exercising in the morning and then went out for lunch stopping at Lowe's first for some smoke/fire/CO detectors to replace ones which were not working any longer. When we were on our way home from the restaurant Dick received a cell phone call from the nursing home about his mother. She has been there for a number of years and celebrated her 100th birthday May 24th but had not been doing very well the last week or so. We had planned to go see her so just quickly stopped at home to drop off leftovers from lunch and then went to the Nursing home. They had just started his mom on morphine a couple of days ago for pain which was not being helped by other medicaitons and had put her on oxygen Sunday. Sh e was very soundly sleeping when we went in but I knew when I saw her that she was not doing well. It very much reminded me of how my mom looked when she was near the end. My husband is very uncomfortable with this kind of thing and I could tell by his body language how upsetting it was for him to see her this way. We left after a short time and he gave his sister a call to let her know how their mother was doing. This is all made worse by the fact that his sister is in the middle of chemo treatments for breast cancer and is scheduled for another treatment this Tuesday. We came home and Dick installed the new detectors we had a light dinner, watched a little TV and went to bed about 10:00PM. At 2:55AM we received a call from the Nursing Home that his mom had passed away. He had to call his sister to let her know because the Nursing home wanted to know if they wanted to come in to see her before they called the funeral home to come get the body. I don't know any of the plans yet but I know they had most everything already set up with the funeral home. After all this I could not get back to sleep but I did manage to get Dick to go back to bed and I stayed there until he fell back to sleep before getting back up.

HI Mary,, hon,,, it's never easy to have a loved one leave us, no matter how old they are,,,,, I lost my Nana at age 95 a few yrs ago. My Dad was a MESS !!! We were there for Dad and for us to say "goodbye" for now any hows. Everyone has their beliefs and they bring us all comfort. I know that some do go to heaven, but the bible also promises us some will be alive on the earth. That's what it is I want,,,to be on the earth and eat real food,, have hugs, etc.

May ur beliefs bring you and Dick comfort hon. (HHHUGGSSS) In time as we all know, it gets easier to not hurting as badly as right now.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Sounds like your MIL passed peacefully. That is a true blessing. My dear Aunt Vera passed peaceably at the nursing home recently too. Glad your family did have a good time together. emoticon

I lost my MIL this May after a 6 month stint in the nursing home. We miss her but it is a blessing that she is at peace. Your MIL lived a good long life! 100 years is an incredible time. Hugs.
