My New Journey Pt 1

Monday, September 02, 2013

Hello fellow Sparkers,

I dont normally blog, but I have started an incredible new journey & wanted to share with you. On July 16, 2013, I had Open RNY Surgery, also known as Gastric Bypass Surgery.

My surgery went very smoothly. Smoother than I had dared hoped. I had pain, but was able to wean myself off the morphine pump by the 1st morning after surgery. I had surgery on a Tues & was determined to get home by Friday afternoon. For those who dont know, I have a chihuahua named Peppy who is my spoiled rotten furbaby. I was worried about him & needed to get back to him. My surgeon was very impressed with my progress & agreed that I could return home (350 miles from the hospital) on Friday.

I have followed the diet to the letter, even limiting myself on the free foods, so that I dont stretch my stomach by accident. I am now eating pureed foods, on my way to being able to eat regular food. Im currently eating 2 ounces of food 3 times a day with 2 protein shakes a day to supplement my protein needs. Starting September 17th, I will move to 3 ounces of food 3 times a day. My stomach will never get any bigger than 8 ounces.

I had this surgery for ME. Not for anyone else. I did it to save my life. My mother passed away at 52 of heart disease & my father passed at 60 with chronic lymphatic lukemia. i just turned 48 last month. If I wanted to make it any farther than 50, I had to make some major changes in my life, well this was the start to those changes. I have several more surgeries in my future. Both knees need to be replaced as they are bone on bone, I have a large hernia in my stomach that will need to be removed after I lose alot more weight; ans my surgeon informed me that I will need to have the extra skin from my weight loss removed around my stomach. So I still have along way to go, but Im looking forward to being smaller & healthier than I was when I graduated high school.

I forgot to say, So far 6 weeks after surgery I have lost 61lbs, 6 inches off my hips and 3 inches off my waist. I am able to walk with my rollator about 250 feet without stopping & without being out of breath! I can even talk while Im walking... those things are Miracles to me. Before surgery I could walk about 15 feet without being out of breath! I was able to walk through Family Dollar last week, I had to stop, but I did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Dr even commented at my 1st post op visit, look you have collarbones now! That was awesome! I have went down 3 sizes in clothes so far & am looking at the next one!

I get my inspiration from my Fellow Sparkers.....Keep up the Great Work!

Spark On!!!!
