Whole30 - My Second Time Around - Day One

I'm using my SparkPeople blog instead of my regular blog to keep a daily track of my second round of Whole30. I completed a Whole30 in February of this year and the health benefits were fantastic and amazing for both myself (a food addict) and my husband (a diabetic).

Sadly. Our lesson was not learned. By summer we were allowing old habits to creep ever more steadily into our daily nutritional routine, and last week the hubs got the news from the doctor. His A1C's were back up. We both knew our sluggish feelings and pudgy mid-sections were a direct result of letting new and healthier habits take a back seat to old less than impressive habits.

So, today begins our second round of Whole30 with a hope that it will stick longer and better this time.

Day One :
First issue of the day - I had a cup of coffee after noon. This is a no-no on the Whole30. I however did have only 2 cups all day, and that has felt pretty fantastic.
Second issue of the day - I wanted to munch all morning. Snack. Eat. Anything. Everything. Even though I was NOT HUNGRY. Instead, I got myself busy with some activities that did not involve me being anywhere near food or the kitchen until lunch.

Good Things: Yesterday I made a breakfast egg casserole that's Whole30 approved. This means I did not have to cook breakfast today, nor will I until Thursday morning. I also boiled some boneless/skinless chicken breast until the meat was nice and tender, then shredded it. This will make it much easier for our chicken salads during the week. Tonight when I cooked dinner, I cooked extra for tomorrow's lunch. This is one lesson that stuck with me from the first Whole30, double up meals as much as possible so everyday doesn't feel like you are spending all day cooking and prepping food.

The Food:
Egg Casserole made with bell pepper, onion, spinach, and kalamata olives.
Chicken Salad with oil and vinegar dressing, broccoli, cauliflower, tomato, and spinach. An apple on the side.
Hamburger (no bun) with homemade mayo, dijon mustard, spinach, tomato, onions sauteed in garlic powder, paprika, and curry, and slow baked sweet potatos. Frozen mango and blueberries on the side.

The Exercise:
I did level 1-2 of Power90 weight lifting. The hubs walked.

The hubs has agreed to do Power90 with me, however, it comes with a challenge. In order for him to do it with me I must get up and do the workout at 5AM. I am not a morning person. Not even close. Not even a little. However, I really want to help ensure he is getting in a little exercise every day too and having a workout partner in the flesh would help me to keep moving forward towards my workout goals. Setting the alarm for tomorrow, and hope to be successful in my getting up attempts.

Day One Emotions: I feel good. Wonder if I'll feel any "carb flu". Thinking I will continue having sweet potatoes every night for dinner to help stave off that from happening. Feels odd to not snack before bed. It's been an hour since I ate and I'll be heading to bed in another hour. Just one more hour to go to not fall into a desire to snack. Drinking water to help curb the snack feeling cause I am truly not hungry. Also must remember to get hubs to test his blood sugars before bed. Curious to see how they will look after his first Whole30 day.

On to tomorrow.
