"Down", but not "Done"

I was trying to get myself in a healthier "place" a couple of monthes ago, and signed up for some "free" tests. The bone density test I came through with flying colors. The mammagram was my first, and although I had always been careful to do "self-exams" and watch for lumps, I was literally "blown away" with the results! I had masses in both breasts and ended up with surgery and reconstruction. Let me tell you that this is alot to handle in just a couple of monthes! I remember back when I first got out of nursing school. Florence Nightingale and I were classmates lol! Anyway, the radical mastectomies of that time were like seeing "train tracks"on these poor woman's chests, and they lost alot of the use of their arms. If there is a bright note in this blog, it is that I was so fortunate to have this happen now. Well, I had my surgeries-They did find cancer in some of the lymph nodes so I am also looking at chemo and radiation in the future. So, what's the "up" part of the story? My mom has been taking fantastic care of me, and although she had a broken back and I had moved in with her to care for her, now she is helping me! So, the long and short of this story is, I believe I was being looked after by an angel through all of this! I have a long road ahead, but feel very lucky to be able to share this with my spark friends! Rock on !!!!!!!!!!!

Such a scary ordeal to go through. Praying for you to come through the treatments with no lasting effects. Wasn't it fortunate that your mom is there to help after you moved in with her to care for her? Strange how things work out sometimes. Stay positive. emoticon -- Lou

So glad you were there for your mom and equally glad that she can be there for you!! You'll beat this thing and be dancing and singing again before you know it! I'll bet you're still singing anyway, right?

This should be a warning to all of us to do the self exams AND get the mammogram on as regular a basis as we can. If we don't take care of ourselves, who will? Hugs all! emoticon

Glad to hear that you got treatment and pray it was caught "in time". It's been a long time since I heard anything from you and now, I guess, I understand why. May God bless you with strength and complete healing from all cancer.
