Friday in the office

I'm covering the office again today for Family Promise. Our Director is on a very well deserved vacation this week. The house is full as the schools are closed for teachers convention Thursday and Friday. Usually when I'm here during the day the house is almost silent, but today four family's children are filling the Day Center with happy sounds. At times loud, but still happy!
It's always very humbling to be here answering the phone. The calls come pretty consistently throughout the day. The need is crushing and the stories are so heart wrenching. We're full to capacity, but I try to find them some other agency or contact that may be able to help them. I wish them well and say a prayer they'll be able to find shelter. It changes your outlook on all that you have and makes you very grateful for all your own blessings. It also makes me think I have excess that could be of use and a blessing to someone else. Every time I work a week here I spend the next few weeks paring down my belongings. Simplifying life is the goal.
Dear Heavenly Father, please know I have a grateful and open heart as you send me out to do your work. Please guide my hands, as well as my deeds, to serve wherever you need me. Thank you for my every blessing and most of all for my Dad, my greatest blessing.
