I am getting behind on my Christmas Challenge countdown. I have been feeling miserable since Friday with shooting pain, like electrical sensations, up my right arm and around my ribcage. Monday the Dr ran lots of tests to rule out heart issues or pneumonia. She couldn't find anything wrong so I went back to work thinking that I either had really bad indigestion or some kind of a pulled muscle. Tuesday I woke to a blistering rash on my chest and around my rib cage. It was immediately recognizable as shingles so I have started antivirals. I know people say that Shingles is painful but I really had no idea exactly what they meant. The rash hurts like a severe sunburn but the real pain is the bizarre electrical impulses through my chest. It feels much like hitting my funny bone over and over about every 20 or 30 seconds. I have not been able to make myself do much exercise because it hurts to wear clothes. On the upside I might see some weight loss because I don't feel like eating. My diet is mostly painkillers and hot tea.

Sounds awful. Try green tea with mint - my new favorite. Recommend eating some prunes with the pain killers if you're like me. Hope for your speedy recovery.

Tina, I hope the pain lessens quickly. You were on a roll with all the healthy habits. It must be frustrating to be stopped in your tracks. So just pamper yourself till you feel better. chris

Oh no! So sorry to hear this. I've never had Shingles before & from what I've heard (& what you're experiencing) I hope I never do. Praying the meds do their job & you'll at least get some sort of relief & a QUICK recovery!

I've had shingles so I know what you are going through. As for the exercise, my advice would be don't do any at the moment. Just rest easy and let the shingles take it's course. One thing you don't want to do is to rub the scabs off by doing exercise or wearing clothes, they are best left to come off by themselves. If you feel you want to do something then a little marching in place would, I feel, be okay but be careful of the scabs whilst marching and stop when you feel like it, don't push yourself.

Just for information, I have heard, and I know it is available in the UK because my Doc is offering it, there is an injection against shingles. I am going to have this, even though I've had shingles, because I don't want shingles again.
