Slushy, Sloppy and Sliding to the Summit
Sunday, December 22, 2013
It was NOT what we planned on. We wanted the light, fluffy, soft snow that we had on Friday. But Saturday's snow was melting, sticky snow. The ice sheet that I thought we would scramble up like Spider Man was a river of freezing run-off.
Still, we hiked.
It was a beautiful day, and we have been waiting to get in one last climb before the New Year. This is our favorite past time. Monadnock was calling, and we answered the call.
We hiked up the Toll Rd to the White Arrow Trail. It is always a beautiful day when John and I get to hike together. We talk, joke, laugh, eat treats, and see the beautiful vistas together. On the summit, we eat our PBJ sandwich, and drink hot cocoa.
We worked much harder than we had planned. We saw fewer people than we thought we would.
Last night, we slept soundly. Hiking will do that to you!
