Harnessing the Monkeys

Saturday, January 04, 2014

This is VANCOUVER--on the Stanley Trail---taken by son#2 The Air Canada Pilot, as he ran the trail. ----Beautiful isn't it?----
This was yesterday here-at 7am--on our deck- -And in case you can't read that temperature---

I am on a 2 month weight loss challenge----It began on New Year's Day---and my calories are coming down , now , to a more reasonable amount-...1268 yesterday----It's a sorta New Years thing with Team Sudbury.
As well as this new New Years eating thing, why not begin a ""Quality of Life"", New Years Goal?......like...Mindfulness.
....Resilience (not honking at people in a traffic jam).....Optimism----new things to strive for, to make all our lives better----

Yesterday, while picking up my new 10 yr Passport----an older woman was standing off to the side mumbling to herself---because I had to wait in a line, I particularly noticed that no-one was speaking to her---Finally I hear her mention a ""bear episode" she had had outside her house--I began to speak to her about this bear--relating that I had had a similar thing happen----All of a sudden someone else added a comment, and before long, we were all into a conversation about her bear--She related that she didn't like living here--wished she was in the next town--
Maybe we helped to make her feel a part of our community---
Maybe it means ..us..."slowing down"".....looking out for the other person-----taking time....Maybe New Year's resolutions shouldn't always be about ""weight loss""----
Perhaps, New resolutions could mean, ""Improving Qualities of Life""-and this --might help out our corners of the world!

But------I sure Still wish I was skinny!-----
Maybe we should harness those monkeys!--LOL

Good for you for taking time to make a connection with a stranger!
That is what being friendly is all about.

I can really relate to this bog. One of my goals for 2014 is to become a more compassionate person.

That was so sweet of you to speak to that woman. I bet you made her feel more included in the community. I have to agree that everyone is in such a hurry these days and always so focused on what they need to do. I used to get so irritated with my mother for talking to people in line at the grocery store or department store but came to understand that it is nice to do that, even if it is just to say hello. When I had my granola company I used to love to talk with my customers after their purchases. It used to drive my himself crazy because all he would do was give them their purchases and say thank you. Well he did not really want to be there with me for that, had to give up his weekend to help me at the farmers' markets but I still so enjoyed it.

As for the flying monkeys...Christmas Eve older daughter still hummed that tune from the Wizard of Oz every time younger daughter walked into the room. So much fun that night was!!! emoticon

Have a great day!! Stay safe and warm. It is positively balmy here at 1 degree F today and going all the way up to 15.

Absolutely agree with making people feel welcome and included. Part of my mission at work is to make the newer folks productive in a kind / mentoring way! Especially trying to help the non-techie folks as our success is SO interdependent!

    Have a BEAR-able day! emoticon

Good reminder to stop and interact with those around us. I'm sure you made a difference in that woman's day by taking the time to chat...probably made a difference in yours, too. emoticon
