the cheese stands alone

dont know whats going on with me lately.
i seem to do well thru the early part of the day, but later in the day i snack.
while today it was weight watchers 2 point cakes. i must have eaten 3 or 4, i know this is why i dont normally buy these kind of cakes, while i tell myself they are low in calories etc. i know if i have a box in the house, i will eat half the box, then the rest of the box!!!
sweets arent really my biggest downfall, its carby cheesey bready type foods.
chips arent really my down fall either, but crackers are.
so, cheese and crackers seem to be a big part of my evenings lately.
i just dont really know where this is coming from.
the only option i can see is going to bed at 6pm so that i dont eat all evening, but that isnt possible.
i know the real solution is finding out why i feel the need to eat these snacks.
what is causing me to crave carbs lately, and why do i do well in the day and not so much in the evening.
i feel like im failing myself.
i feel failure seeping from my pores and it smells like cheddar!!!

Wow! Do I understand the carby, cheesy thing. Carbs and Cheese are my downfall, because you know...everything tastes better with cheese on it. Sometimes it just calls my name from the other room. Soooooo hard to resist. I find for me, sometimes, just a glass of skim or lowfat milk will taste so good and help me with my cravings. I try to save enough calories to have a glass at the end of the day...maybe that will help. Or JUST DON'T BUY IT. A few weeks ago (I am back now) I just didn't buy the cheese at the grocery store. If it isn't in the house you can't eat it.

I've been having the same problem lately. Can we blame the weather?

For me, once I start in those habits, it's tough to stop. I was in a crackers/cheese/salsa afternoon snack habit and I HAD to break it. I also had an after dinner ice cream habit that had to go.

Is your stomach genuinely hungry after dinner? Try drinking a lot of water, brushing your teeth and waiting at least 20 minutes. Go off and do something else, then do a "re-check" on your hunger, see if it's still there. If it is, then you need to have a different snack ready. Plain non/lowfat Greek yogurt with cut-up apple and mixed berries (keep a bag in the freezer) is my favorite, most filling and satisfying snack. High protein in the yogurt; high fiber in the fruit.

If you are NOT hungry, but your mouth is just craving the salt, try brushing your teeth and/or chewing some minty or other flavor gum. If you can break the habit just one night, it will probably be easier to avoid it the next night.

If all else fails, go to bed! Sometimes when your body is craving rest, and not getting it, it will crave food instead to supply the energy it needs.
