Good Till Year 2021.

Monday, January 27, 2014

That's when I will have to renew my drivers license.
I had to get a new one as the old one expired on my birthday, Dec. 19, 2013.
I had the old one since 2005. Here's a look at me back then.
I was obese , about 258 lbs, but listed my weight as 240. I couldn't bring myself to write an amount over 250. At that weight no one can tell the difference anyway. Of course I was to go on to 350 before I took control of my weight.
I stayed obese and in Jan. 2010 started a weight loss program.
By the middle of 2011 I had reached my goal of 145 . Changed my hair to red. The photo and description on my license didn't resemble me. But even though I was reminded by the bank and some store clerks that I should get a new ID, I didn't.
In the fall of 2012 was denied access to a flight because of not having current ID.
After going through that ordeal of changing flights. Rushing home to get my current passport to use as ID, I decided it was time to get a new drivers license.
The first time in Oct. 2012 .went to the DMV, I didn't have my birth certificate. It was a new law that Oregon had imposed and I didn't know. So I put off getting the license again.
I knew that by having a current passport I was covered as far as ID went.
The early part of Dec. 2013 I had to go to the MVD to get new title and plates for my van. Decided to get the drivers license too..
I put on some make up, a cute little hat , threw on a sweater and thought I looked pretty good. I was OK to have my picture taken.
I had all my forms filled out, had my birth certificate. Mentioned that I was glad I had on a cute hat for my picture as it was rainy and my hair looked awful.
The clerk looked at me and said, "you'll have to take the hat off for the picture."
I said forget it. i would come back another time.
O)K we are down to the wire. My license expires on the 19th of Dec. I have attempted twice to get a new license and failed.
I got up on my birthday and though it's gotta be today.
I washed and styled my hair. It's long now, takes more time to fix, but I like it for a change. I got dressed, was looking good. Or at least I thought so.
Got to the DMV. everything went well until the eye test. Oh my gosh. I could hardly read the letters. I finally read them after switching glasses a few times and squinting with one eye shut to read the line I could hardly make out. Was surprised when the clerk told me I passed.
Then it was picture time. There is no mirror. I thought my hair was good. That is until I saw the picture. I had messed up my bangs taking the eye test. But what was done was done. it will have to be. Unless I lose my licence and want to go through another photo, hoping it will turn out better. No way!!!
I fingred, who cares. who is going to see it. I'm just glad that I don't have to get another one till 2021. Who knows if I will still be around . Plan to, but who really knows..
Here's the up to date current license.
I do think I look better now 8 years later at 72 than I did in 2005 , at 64.
If there anything to take from this storey. Don't put off getting a current ID. You never jnow when you might really need it.
Take care.
Be strong, stay positive.
Hugs Tisha

Hi Tisha, You are a much healthier and prettier version of you now. I also have to renew my DL by next month. Such a necessary pain. Our DMV only gives a 3-5 year renewal I guess that's why it such a "zoo" there. Thankfully I don't need my picture taken this year as my picture is only about 5-6 years old. I like to think I look much better than I did over 65+ ago. Enjoy your week. I always love to read your blogs, etc. You sure went through a lot to renew your DL & get a new picture on it. Good for you for being persistent. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Your story is a common one - getting mine was an equal nightmare - especially the photo part. When they changed our address last year to make it 9-1-1 compatible, I had to go about 4 times before I finally had everything they needed - birth certificate, marriage licenses, divorce certificates, proof of address (has to be some official document), etc. etc. by the time I got it all together, I forgot where I put it, and FINALLY I just wanted the %#%# picture taken and to get out of there - mine now expires on MY 70th b-day.

I don't understand how they could deny you at the airport since your license didn't expire til 12-19-13? Was it because you weighed less and had a different color hair? I've never heard of that happening.

Anyway, I'm glad you are now legal!

You do look totally different! Like June, in Iowa you can't smile, plus we have to take your glasses off if you wear them AND they are only good for 2 years after you hit your 70th birthday! Lots of hurdles, but we don't need a birth certificate as long as we haven't let it expire. Great new photo for you! emoticon

PS: Almost forgot...we don't get to keep our old ones, so no one will ever see what I looked like "then!" LOL!!

Tisha, I wouldn't even recognize you in your old license picture. What a difference and you look great! In Virginia you cannot smile and the picture is black and white. I think I look like a convict! lol Tisha, as I said before you are amazing and so inspiring! Keep doing what your doing and you'll get that license in 2021! emoticon emoticon June

emoticon at squinting and closing one eye while taking the eye test. I dislike that test! My license expired in November and they just used the same old one. I had taken that one in 2007 after I had lost some weight so at least my face looks smaller. Isn't that funny we don't have to take a NEW photo here? I renewed online maybe if I would have went in person I could've. It expires in 2019 for 25 bucks lol

This is a great adventure you had but it made me smile and chuckle. you're looking good. What's wrong with your bangs? Keep primping around town because YOU truly DESERVE it because YOU are such a GREAT Inspiration! Thanks for sharing such a great blog!
Enjoy A GREAT End to January!
