So many changes!

Wow! I didn't realize that I hadn't blogged since before my divorce was final a year and a half ago. I was thinking back on what has happened since then. At the end of September 2012, my divorce was final. I became a homeowner in November 2012. My daughter graduated college in April 2013, and I helped her move to Lexington, Kentucky (11 hours away - boohoo!) in May 2013. In June 2013, my ex remarried and my mother died. During all of this, I was dealing with a boss that was trying to sleep with me while I was also working 6 days a week/12 hours a day. A week after my mother died, I decided enough was enough and made the decision to take some time off to deal with all of the changes, so I quit work with the plan to take a year off. It was the best choice I could have made!! I looked around and realized that I had been married to a hoarder and since his new wife wouldn't let him put anything in her house, I was expected to be a warehouse manager. My house wasn't like the ones on the shows where there is a layer of trash on the floor to walk/climb over, but it was bursting at the seams with things crammed in every corner and piled on every surface. My ex followed the theories that if something was old, it had to be kept because that made it interesting and only he could value that, and if one of anything was good, six was better. He kept "organizing" things, but it was mostly just to make room for more things. I was amazed at what I had learned to turn a blind eye to. I had over 3 dozen pieces of furniture hauled away for donation, 3 truckloads of junk and trash hauled away for disposal, and I donated carloads of items to a local mission 15 times in the last year. That made way for me to repaint my bedroom; convert my daughter's room into a library; convert an upstairs closet into a linen closet; clean out and paint a downstairs closet; remove some mildewed cabinetry in my laundry room and replace it with new shelving; and repaint the downstairs bathroom, dining room and kitchen as well as remove and replace the flooring in those rooms. I also decided to completely gut my kitchen while I was at it and get new cabinets and countertops.
Beyond the "home front," I started learning Italian a year ago and promised myself a trip to Italy in May 2014, and I'll be leaving on May 1st for 11 days! I'm so excited! As for my love life, I met someone that I really care about and have been dating for the last several months. I'm not sure I'll ever want to get married again - I'm on my own in my own space for the first time in my adult life, and I like it.
Unfortunately, I have to admit there has been a price for my being at home for the last 10 months - I am way too close to my refrigerator and I have a boyfriend that likes to feed me. He also likes to introduce me to new cuisine that I haven't tried before. Not a great combination for someone who can be a chow hound, and I've gained about 20 pounds. Plus, I ate a lot of take-out during the 2 months it took to do my kitchen. Anyway, I'm starting to work on bringing it back down, and I plan on going back to work by the end of May or in June, which will help, too.
Well, that's the latest on what's happening in my world. I hope all of you have a beautiful spring day and remember to believe in yourself and your choices! It's amazing how things work out!
