Thought and Prayer for Friday, April 11, 2014

There is so much trouble that can be found when we are bored. When our hands are idle. When our focus is on the things of the world. When we get tired of the same routine over and over again. We may find ourselves searching for the things of the world to entertain us. We may reach out to vile and vulgar things. We may reach out to things and people who will abuse and use us and cause us to do wrong. Rather than deeming our routines boring, we should ask God to help us find excitement in what we do and look for ways to focus on and glorify Him rather than focusing on being bored.

Ecclesiastes 10:10 “Using a dull ax requires great strength, so sharpen the blade. That’s the value of wisdom; it helps you succeed.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, help us to continue to seek Your will in all we do so we don’t become bored or dull about doing what You have called us to do. Help us to keep things fresh and new by continuously learning and seeking Your word in all we do. Help us not to get bored and stray to the things of the world but instead focus on the things in Your word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

It is so tempting, when we are bored, to give up doing good and fall into the things of the world. But God can help us refuse to do what is wrong.

When we get bored, we could easily stray from doing good.

If we focus on being bored, we aren’t going to find the newness God has in store for us.

We will never be bored when we decide to study God’s word every day.

We must decide today to refuse to do wrong and only do what God wants us to do even if it means doing boring and routine tasks.

Psalm 101:3 “I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar.” (NLT)

Focus today: Let’s use God’s word as a way to focus on creating newness to our days every morning…without fail.
