As we sit to a meal often we pause..to sip a drink ..to chat a bit..to exchange pleasantries.
Then we will glance at our plate ,,,see there is still food there..& on we munch..with no thought of ..did we already have enough?
Then ...if resuming eating after "the pause"...we end up saying I should have quit earlier I am too full...I am stuffed..I am uncomfortable ..ahhh ha!!!
So we are not thinking...we are eating cause there is food there.
We are not checking with our tummies to see where on the full scale they are..nor are we listening to our tummies..we are MINDLESSLY eating. that might not be exactly the correct phrase..but it is an echo of the Mom voice calling out..Clean Your Plate Honey!! So we do!
A clean plate is NOT always a good thing.....
just found that one..it woulda fit better on another lesson..but thought it was cute ..so there it is!! & is it true....OMG yes!!!
The idea put forth here is that at that point where you naturally pause..your body is in fact saying...we're good here! If the pause is an interruption from a statement or the arrival of a person , of course that throws off the natural rhythm of "pause". Does anyone experience this? As stated before I think my full button got over charged & just does not work at all.
I absolutely depend on calorie count or point system ...the ole CI/Co is the way to go for me.
Although I am learning here..I also am hoping by doing these exercises I will "reset" my "full" button & it will start working once again.
I hate feeling like this.....
yet all too often I just eat till that is where I am.
my own worst enemy at times is my right arm & hand..although I learned to shovel it in with my left hand when my right wrist was broken & in a cast. Ever try to get a half arm cast up to your mouth...not possible & evidently hilariously funny according to DH!!!
Yep best advice there is...right along with ..it sucks to be a responsible adult!!
No one to blame it on...no one at all...
So one idea is to about half way thru a meal ...just stop..put your fork or spoon down..take a sip of water or whatever beverage to clear your pallet . Then just rest for a minute or so..give your body a chance to let you know if it NEEDS more food..not wants ...NEEDS.
When you realize during a pause that indeed you do not really need more food..then either get up & walk away , or place your plate out of your reach. Then if later you are sure you are hungry..have a piece of fruit. To me one rule of hunger always was...if you are hungry you will eat what is there...if you are picky & only want a certain item that is not hunger!
That is a craving...& we all know giving in to cravings is one reason we are here trying to learn & practice a healthier lifestyle.
sounds good...but doesn't sound true...
So add a pause to your meals...see how it works for you!
I have to admit today..I ate a light breakfast as I planned on a good healthy lunch..but..
we ended up dashing into town..by the time we ran around & tended to a few things..
my stomach was quite sure my throat had been cut . It was not so much grumbling & groaning as it was rubbing against my spine! Painfully hungry ...so did I make a good decision & eat a wonderfully healthy meal....PLEASE you are talking to me!
Arbys...roast beef with cheese,,potato cake-only one!...add on an Ande's chocolate shake!
Nearly a days calories in a meal..& at the time it was worth it ..because I let my hunger get control of my mind & body.
I did not feel quite that full..but I did realize the malt was "one step too far".
So tomorrow is another day...& tomorrow will be a bit more focused...let's see how many rules did I break...
1-too long between meals
2- got way way too hungry
3-gave in to temptation without a second thought..mmmm chocolate!!
4-ate too fast ..because I was too hungry..so did not even really enjoy my food..
despite licking my lips & saying yummy several times!!! I know it would have been better if
I had taken time to really savor & enjoy every bite.
Indeed...exactly what I intend to do..along with some extra time on the treadmill~~
