Day 37-Do You LOVE to Eat?

Monday, April 14, 2014

Honestly most of us do. Almost all of our social activities are centered around eating!
The weekend BBQ, Sunday Dinner with the folks, company over for a special dinner...
even hot dogs at the game or popcorn at the movies.

There is not much that happens in our lives that does not focus on food to some extent or another. I admit I love to cook...especially a big meal for a large group, I enjoy seeing them munch down & for everyone to have a really good visit that is topped off with good food!

So part of what todays lesson was about was to analyze what is it that you love about food?
No wrong or right in this lesson ..it is just gaining understanding of how you relate to food and why.

Many many happy memories are related to food, meals with friends..with loved ones that are now gone..even company dinners, church gatherings, family at the park on the 4th or the family reunion . The list is endless. The question is..was it the food or the activity?

The taste..the smell..the texture of a favorite food..think about it..savor that thought. Now figure out the best part ..the part you love!! At the same time think about where you were & what you were doing while having this food..is it the food or is it the occasion?

Does popcorn ever taste as good as Movie Popcorn? well to me..NO way!! Part of what makes it so delightful is ..being at the movies!

Food is also a reminder of fun times..laughter & feel good moments. Like the year someone made a turkin (turkey stuffed with chicken...Honest!)..not the best turkey ever..but certainly one of the best memories ever!! So twas the moment not the food!

Think it over...decide what & why you love to eat. Then put yourself in those situations..only now use the tools you have learned..the food is still great..the moment is still fun..& you are still "on program!"...makes it even better!!

We got a big ole snow..my baby duck could not even walk in the snow it was so deep!
Almost all melted now..but more in the forecast. Ahhh Spring you are a fickle season indeed! Enjoy the good days..& stay up for the eclipse! Should be clear & lovely!

Another great post. I remember a friend of mine in Sedona who owned a B&B -- and of course one of the neat things about a B&B is that it is Bed & Breakfast. And the breakfast that woman would come up with were something you dream about when you are thinking lavish and luxury. Served in your room on your own special china, of course. It was one of the most luxurious events I can think of that my DH and I shared. It was an anniversary present from them. I can't remember the room in great detail, but I can remember there was a pot of coffee with real cream, there were rolls so light you could blow them away, with layers of real butter and succulent jam spread between their folds. And strawberries, sweet and ripe, sprinkled lightly with sugar and engulfed in real whipped cream. Not a healthy meal, but a memorable one to be sure!

I think food combines with the occasion to give up the complete picture of what our memories cherish most. For my family it was Sunday dinner with several relatives coming to our house for fried chicken, baking powder biscuits and mashed potatoes, there were fresh veggies from the garden, and sometimes homemade ice cream. If it wasn't the fried chicken for Sunday it was fresh caught fish. Minnesota is famous for it's 10,000 lakes, and there was always one close by.

I think it is why most men grow up to love their mother's cooking. It is part of the memory of growing up. Events + food = memories.
