I was feeding my pets too many treats previously and cut back. They preferred treats over healthy food.

Shadow, our dog gains weight easily. She only gets 2 treats a day, one early morning, the other late at night and she works out with me. While I pedal on my stationary bike for 60 minutes she runs on the treadmill beside me for the same time.. When I am healthy I bring her with me in the woods and let her run. Frodo, our cat also gets a treat 2 times a day. I but the small cans of salmon and give him a teaspoon in the morning and at night. (He once a urine crystals so I keep his snack moist). Montana, our horse gets carrots when we have finished for the day. I also buy Nutrigrain bars with fruit in them as a special treat after she has cooled down from riding. The vet even gave me permission for these as they are very soft and moist also (she has had 2 bouts of colic). All of my little sweethearts expect their treats and know precisely when they get them. Oh, I forgot, we also feed the mare a fiber supplement with electolytes in it to make her drink (also because of the colic).

(oh, and none of them are overweight, we watch them carefully!!!)
