Determined Dahlias, May Challenge Week 3 Mom and Me!

Sunday, May 18, 2014

My mom was a wonderful woman and a great mom. Unfortunately it wasn't until after I was out on my own that I strated to appreciate her. She was the one who helped me gain a love for cooking and experimenting with different foods to come up with meals for a large family. I am one child out of six and the middle child to boot.

My mom was a great cook but all of us girls tend to have weight problems. When I was in High School my mom joined weight watchers. The receipes that she brought home with her from her meetings helped me loose quiet a bit of weight and keep it off.

Some of my favorite receipes from her are as simple as tuna salad, cottage cheese with tomtoes and onione, to baked squah with parmesean cheese. I am lucky that my brother had the bright idea to put a good deal of mom's receipes in a family cookbook. So I don't have to rely on memory for the ingredients.

My mom has been gone for the past 12 years. Whenever I am in the kitchen my memories of her make me smile.

I learned how to cook from my mom as well. I'm glad you had such a good relationship with your mom and that you have such great memories of her when you are in the kitchen cooking. emoticon emoticon

What a nice reflection of your mom and your relationship with her. Weight Watchers was introduced to me by my mother too and I still use many of the recipes she shared with me from Weight Watchers.

I am glad that you had a good relationship with your mom. Some of my favorite memories are those times I shared with my mom(my grandma) in the kitchen.

I also learned about cooking and baking from my mom, and she, like your mom joined Weight Watchers and taught me a lot of the things she learned. I am sure you miss your mom, but I am glad you have special memories of her when you work in the kitchen!
