an extra hour to plan

If I had an extra hour, I would spend it planning my meals. I'm already better at getting exercise in, and know I need to sleep more and just need to be consistent daily with getting to bed on time. I need to spend more time planning meals. When I have nothing planned, it's just to easy to grab convenient good, whether from a restaurant or from home. Harder to get things from freezer, defrost and follow a recipe. I have healthy meals but sometimes it requires a mindset change as to how I want to feel after eating.

    I find that if I do not plan my meals for the week, I end up grabbing fast food or eating junk food since it's convenient. Planning is always a must for me. Writing down your meals for the week is very helpful.

    This made such a big difference for me. I do the same thing as FlyLady.

    We also post a magnetic white board on our fridge with the dinners we have scheduled for the week. The kids like to check it to see what is for dinner that night, it also helps me be mindful of what needs to be taken out of the freezer etc. Oh - one more thing to think about - if you review your calendar you can plan your meal based on if you have a busy night or a more laid back night.

    Sorry for the long post - I guess I get a little too excited over menu planning!

    Maybe if you spent time upfront planning a series of meals that you could repeat it would payoff in the long run. emoticon

    FlyLady has a weekly scheduled time for meal planning - 15 minutes on Sunday. Nothing elaborate, just checking the fridge/freezer/pantry, jotting down some ideas, and adding to the grocery list if needed. Now, as to actually COOKING.... well, that can take some time, lol!
