Is New York City Animal Care & Control. They are NYC's only open entry facility, meaning they cannot turn away any animal. Which unfortunately means they are also the last kill shelter in the city. I'm starting the training process to be a volunteer(A Cat Companion), I am very excited. I went for an interview yesterday, will be doing webinars next week then on site training the following, then I just sign on for shifts. The people I most admire in my life are those who devote their lives to animals at whatever level they can. I want to be someone I admire so this is a good first step. I think it will also help me with a number of my issues, hopefully will be able to drop a few pounds while I'm at it. What I will actually be doing is cleaning out their living spaces(some are cages but they have some 'deluxe' too), helping them get socialized so they'll be friendly & more likely to be adopted, and interacting with potential adopters. I'm a little nervous about the humans but since it's for the kitties, i'll handle it :) This is the first thing I've really looked forward to in a very long time.
