Day 546: A Milestone...

I don't do streaks well.

I suspect it's mixed up with an all-or-nothing mentality with perfectionism thrown in. You know. A or F, and it darned well better be the perfect A.

Add sore loser to the mix: if it's not a perfect A / blue ribbon / I win, I'll take my toys and go home.


Where can I share my (ahem) quirks 'n' foibles if not here?

The past twelve months have been unbelievably - no other word for it - hellish. If the stresses and strains don't shorten my life by a good few years, I'll be surprised.

And yet...

Every day I've checked into SP. I've tracked my food and (when I've actually done any exercises!) my fitness. I've tracked my blood sugar levels (they have been better, truth be told) and my personal goals.

Today is 500 days of my checking-in streak.

It's tiny, in the grand scheme of things. It's insignificant. Nearly meaningless.

And yet...

I didn't set out saying to myself "Oh, I'll shoot for 500 days in a row." Day built upon day, and here I am. If ever I needed proof that bit by bit, the little steps add up, there it is.

It's a milestone. Not a great one, but a good one.

    I'm sorry to hear that the past year has been hellish for you. My past year was also pretty awful, and it's not something I really want to discuss here. It's like here we try to keep our blogs light and cheerful, and when life throws us some truly awful developments I revert back to my doityourself-er roots. I hope things turn around soon. Wasn't it Churchill who said when going through Hell, keep going?

    I'm also very impressed with your streak! You might even define lifestyle change as little habits done consistently over a period of time. Our previous, fatter selves might not have been willing or capable, so BRAVO!

    I love this blog! Over the years I've come and gone - got new user names because I was always slightly embarrassed that I didn't follow through when I fell off the good habits wagon.
    So here I am again .... Hopefully for the long haul. One of the things I've missed when gone is your blogs.
