Where I've been & Where I'm going

I know it's been a while and I wanted to fill you in on what's been happening in my world. First of all, from July 2013 to the end of January this year, my husband had been going though medical treatment for a serious illness. Thank God the treatment was successful! Well, shortly after that, we found out that he has Type 2 Diabetes and 2 weeks later he was on Insulin.
I don't want any sympathy about this, it's life and you have to deal with it. But with these emotional ups and downs it's was hard for me to keep up with what I was doing on SparkPeople, so I needed to take a break from it.
I have gained some weight (big surprise!) but I have also begun losing some of that weight. I decided to get off my butt and quit feeling as if my life was out of control. I found out the health insurance plan I have also includes weight management and I made an appointment with a doctor in early June. As a result since I weighed in at the doctor's office I have officially lost a little over 13 pounds. I am on a 1100 - 1300 calorie a day diet and my breakfast & lunches include protein shakes & bars. It's called a Modified Very Low Calorie Diet. I am of course under a doctor's supervision for this. I am attending weekly weight management classes and am seeing a dietitian as well.
So here's my daily meal plan:
200 Calorie Protein Shake
Mid morning snack:
1 piece of fresh fruit (Banana, pear, apple, etc.)
100 Calorie Protein Shake
160 Calorie Protein Bar
Mid afternoon snack:
Veggie (carrot sticks, bell pepper, etc.)
Normal meal with protein, carbs, fat, veggies, etc.
Needless to say, because of my husband's dietary restrictions, I have really cut out a lot of carbs in my diet. I never really thought I could do this because I LOVE carbs. Give me a baked potato, or pasta any day! It's amazing what you can do when you really want to isn't it?
Something else I have noticed because of the plan I am following now is that it's amazing what things I see and 'want' when it never bothered me before. That doesn't mean I am going to buy them though. I just have to get my mind trained as to what is right for me.
Oh, and I made the commitment to myself that I would start working out at the gym. I have my bag packed and plan to start tomorrow. That should really kick butt on my weight loss.
So, you may not see as many blogs from me as you did in the past, but I will give you updates as I progress.
