Innocence Is Priceless

Thursday, July 17, 2014

One Sunday morning, a couple of weeks ago, before mass started, our Pastor noticed Ronnie S., a First grader in our parish school, standing in the foyer of our church staring up at a large plaque.

The plaque was covered with names and had small American flags mounted on either side of it. Ronnie (6 years old) had been staring at the plaque for some time, so our Pastor walked up; stood beside him; and said quietly, "Good morning, Ronnie."

"Good morning, Father," he replied. Still focused on the plaque, Ronnie asked, "Father, what is this?"

Our Pastor replied, "Well, Ronnie, it's a memorial to all the young men and women who died in the service."

Soberly, they just stood together, staring at the large plaque. Finally, little Ronnie's voice, barely audible and trembling with fear asked, "Which service, the 8:00 or the 10:00?"

A former pastor of ours, who moved away a few years ago, sent this to me and I just had to share it with you. He always had the BEST sense of humor, and we still miss him very much.
