6 1/2 Weeks post Ankle Fusion
Saturday, August 09, 2014
This week is the first time I have been allowed to touch my foot to the ground lightly in air cast boot, and start easy foot exercises. Exercises consist of up and down movement and wiggling toes. Ankle will apparently never move side to side again as that movement has been fused with bone from my hip.
Up until now the pain has been far less than I was expecting. I have actually enjoyed using knee walker, my husband has a hard time keeping up to me if I am on a flat even surface. Knee walker is a blessing as my other foot is too weak to support me with crutches.
As I said pain so far has been less than expected - now however with the exercises and touching the ground the pain is worse than it was the first few days post surgery. It is 1PM today and I cannot talk myself out of bed, my foot is throbbing so bad the pain is half way up my calf. Need to do my exercises or I will never get back to walking on it which is supposed to happen in about another 6 weeks. Hopefully the pain will get easier with each passing day.
Due to start physiotherapy in 4 weeks, maybe that will help.
Sorry for the whining. I am just not feeling like myself!
I have been so lucky in that I am married to a man who has done all the cooking, shopping, driving, errands etc since my surgery. Because my kitchen is upstairs and I can not get off the ground floor of my home he is doing it all. I am one very lucky woman, so no more whining.
