After all the diagnostics, introduction of new medicines, and initial adjustments, I have the blessing of having reached a point in my healing journey where I can re-focus on my core issue-my weight and mobility. The diagnosis of Sjogren's through lip biopsy was one of the turning points. There is a medication they used for treating malaria that has cut down the horrible chills, achy, flu symptoms. It is called hydroxychloroquine and I am taking 200 mg. twice a day. The medications have brought my liver levels down to an acceptable range. So, now it's time to boogie!
I tried touching my toes. I figured I am always bending over picking things up, so this should be a piece of cake...yeah, right. I couldn't even do 5. It was like it took all of my energy to do just one and then the next was was harder. I kept at it and now I am up to 25 and I added twistys just for fun. I also do a stretch I call the 'leaning' downward dog. I use my bed as a brace and do the traditional downward dog with one hand hanging on. It isn't pretty, but it frees up the circulation and my feet and knees get happy.
So, the next thing I am trying is to add an additional 100 feet to my daily routine. I was inspired by the movie about two restaurants across from each other with a journey toward balance and love that seemed unsurmountable. My son and cheerleader, Chris, said "You know Mom, one trip to the car and back is half of your journey."
That didn't seem like too much. One of the challenging side effects of the new medicine and my other dis-orders, is vertigo. Combine it with creaky knees, chronic fatigue, and you have a fun adventure. So, armed with my cane and my camera, I set out to explore the neighborhood for the first time since I moved here 8 years ago.
Had it really been 8 years? Yep. Talk about procrastination...
It is amazing! Here are just a little example of the treasures I am finding....
Infinity in a Flower...
Hollyhock Heaven...
And in my down times, under my covers with two fingers able to work a mouse, I can create my art....
