October 17, 2014 WRONG DEVOTION

There are time when we are devoted to the wrong things. We get on the wrong path. We seek the wrong things. We work really hard trying to do something that is really not necessary. We may succeed in doing it but it doesn’t further us along as believers and doesn’t help others come to know Christ. What we are devoted to can move us in the wrong direction and away from God. Being devoted to God requires strong discipline in getting to know His will so we won’t go in the wrong direction.

Colossians 2:23 “These rules may seem wise because they require strong devotion, pious self-denial, and severe bodily discipline. But they provide no help in conquering a person’s evil desires.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, help us today to recognize if we are devoted to the wrong things in life. Help us today to look at what we are devoted to and pray if it is Your will that we remain in it or if we need to move away from it. We want to be devoted to only You and doing Your will. Show us today if what we are devoted to is right according to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Being devoted to God requires strong discipline in getting to know His will so we won’t go in the wrong direction.

If we work hard being devoted to anything other than God, we are wasting our time.

God wants us to be devoted to Him and is willing to help us when we take time to get to know Him.

When we are doing God’s will rather than being devoted to the things of the world, we will find peace.

We are to be devoted to God or we will be thrown away like a useless branch.

John 15:6 “Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned.” (NLT)

Focus: Being devoted to the things of the world will only lead to trouble.
