Super Hero Strength

About this time last year, I was preparing to walk that half marathon. I had to put it on hold this year due to hip bursitis. Thinking back to that day I had no idea if I could accomplish the goal. I went into that event only half prepared. I had walked only 8 miles as my longest distance. I really was hoping I would survive. It got pretty painful by mile 9 - my blisters really hurt, my hips really hurt, my feet hurt. I had to dig deep and I'm really glad the sag wagon didn't stop by or I might have been tempted.

Now it's a year later, and I'm still struggling in my weight loss journey. I need to realize that the same super hero strength I exhibited on that day, I can exhibit every day. I didn't know if I could do it, and I did it. It got painful, but I persevered. It was awesome getting that medal.

This year I'm only planning on walking the 5K - and that's ok. I have a strength within me that I didn't realize I had - I can do this and I need to realize that!

I am so impressed that you not only completed the 1/2 marathon, but even more that you recognized the need to protect you hip so did not try to push too hard this year.     If there is one thing I've learned in life, it is that the challenges that are the hardest in life are the ones from which we grow the most! The best thing gained from pushing through when it would be so much easier to just quit is the self knowledge that we CAN do more than we thought we could!!

    Like Emma said, as important as pushing through is knowing when to rest so healing can occur. This is a long journey - it doesn't all have to be accomplished today!! Hugs!

    Wonderful story. You can definitely persevere through any obstacle now my friend. I am so proud of you that you made it through half a marathon. I too have plans next year to participate in a 5K fit or not, its time we bring out our strength. emoticon

    It takes strength to recognize what your body needs and to take care of it so it can heal. The latest issue of Prevention had some interesting tips for joint pain, etc. You might want to check it out. emoticon

    Awesome! I understand the hip issue. I have trochanteral bursitis. So, if I over do it... I know it. Walking a 5K is do-able. A 1/2 marathon? No way. LOL
