It is so easy to let things fall by the wayside. I know. I do it all the time. I need to make slow but lasting changes. The major change that I am going to work on is to stop, or significantly reduce eating processed foods. Now, that might sound fairly easy but.......it's not. Bread is a processed food. Most cereals are processed food. Crackers, cookies, pasta.....all processed. I had my DH pick up 1/2 and 1/2 for coffee yesterday. My plan is to switch to that from the carnation liquid creamer. The 1/2 and 1/2 has 3 ingredients....milk, cream and.....diphosphate sodium. That is NOT a natural ingredient. Some of the switches will be harder than others. Although I don't eat sandwiches often I do like them. I try to eat "whole grain" but.....it's still "processed" food with preservatives in it. Unfortunately, I do not have the time (or the inclination) to do all my own baking but I will look into some of it. At least then I'll know exactly what I'm eating. The other thing that makes this difficult is the GMO's. There are more out there than you think and they don't have to announce that a vegie is GMO. I hope I'm not going to be reduced to growing my own.......I have no idea how to can things and I don't have a green thumb. Wish my DH had picked up some knowledge from his grandfather. Now that man could grow things! Ah well. The other thing is: What constitutes a MEAL vs a snack. I have never considered liquids (read smoothies, shakes etc.) as a "meal". They're drinks. Doesn't matter if they have vegies, fruit in them. Is there a calorie count that makes something a meal vs. a snack? If so, WHAT IS IT?
