Great start to the year! - Eat to Live

I just have to say - I am feeling amazing! I haven't worked out as much as I wanted, but I am still on the go and plan to keep it up.

The last two weekends I ended up feeling horrible with stomach cramps and diarrhea. The first time I thought I must have a bug because it lasted four days. Then, last Sunday I had the house to myself. My boys normally control the remote, so I had a chance to watch a show I had PVRd. Dr. Joel Fuhrman's End of Dieting had been on PBS earlier in January. A lot of what he said made sense to me. Basically promoting more veggies and fruit - how can that be bad. Also, as a blood Type A, I often notice that I feel better when I follow the Eat Right 4 Your Type recommendations. Dr. Fuhrman says to eat GBOMBS every day - Greens, Beans, Onions, Mushrooms, Berries and Seeds. To focus on getting 90% of your nutrition from plants. This is pretty much on track with the Type A guidelines as well.

Beans are new to me. Never used them much. I made a bean salad one night which both DH and I enjoyed. I am now looking at new recipes to try. The one thing that I thought would be difficult - avoiding dairy, has not been an issue. I have been pretty much compliant since Monday and yesterday I had my first solid bm since before Christmas (TMI? Sorry, but this is a big success for me!). And it clicked - milk allergy! I keep going back to having dairy - cream in my coffee, cream sauce, etc even though I know it makes me feel terrible. Right now, the thought of cream doesn't do anything for me. We will see how the weekend goes when I am eating more with DH.

I just got Dr. Fuhrman's book Eat To Live from the library. I will read it and do the six week challenge to see how I feel about it. I really like the idea of not having to track foods. I also like the idea of focusing on optimal health and longevity rather than weightloss. Although I do have to admit, all of the success stories on Dr. Fuhrman's website are very encouraging! Even if don't decide to do this, adding much more veggies and fruits will be great for me.

Since January 2nd I am down about 5 lbs, but I have lost 2.5" off my waist. Woohoo! On Tuesday I noticed that my "fat" pants were falling down. Back into my 14s that are fitting well.

Your blog made me smile. I love the books by Dr. Fuhrman, I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do. I got SO MUCH out of them and just keep learning new things all the time about eating in this way. emoticon

If you haven't already seen it, watch Forks Over Knives, that is what started me on my journey over a year ago. Haven't look back since. Does take more effort, but I think it has been totally worth every minute and penny spent so far.
Headaches, gone, arthritis, gone, indigestion, gone. Energy up, don't get hungry between meals and know what true hunger is, and eat accordingly.
The thing I have liked the best is that I have always loved large servings, and on ETL, that is the easy part, eat, eat, eat.
    Good luck!! emoticon
