BROKE My LEG & ANKLE!! I still got to push thru!! HELP, need support..

1st Blog for 2015!!

So, I was excited to get my health on track for 2015. I have my workout clothes on January 9th & head down the stairs, when my house shoe slips off & I'm going down a flight of STAIRS!! So, a few hours later after X-Rays ~ Diagnosis is I Broke My Fibula (Leg) & ankle. I am now on 8 to 12 weeks of absolutely NO WEIGHT on my Leg.

So, I am on a knee walker (like a scooter) for the next 2 to 3 months. I know that sitting all day & not being active is sooooooo not good for trying to lose weight. Any suggestions on how I can still workout with 1 good leg???? LOL.. Today I did some arm weights today.

I need to monitor my food but just curious if I should just restrict certain food items since I am sitting all day.

Please, HELP.. I don't want to GAIN any weight while I'm stuck at home for 2 to 3 months before I can walk again.

Thanks for reading.. emoticon emoticon emoticon

If you eat at the lower end of your nutritional range, you should still lose weight, although not as fast as if you were active. Like WOuBBIE pointed out, weight loss happens in the kitchen (or dining room...), not in the gym.

    Good luck and fast healing.

    (((hugs)))

Chair exercise is a good idea - but also remember that weight loss happens in the kitchen, not in the gym. Do what you're physically able to just to keep in tone, and don't worry about its effect on your weight.

Knee scooter! I saw one at the medical equipment store. I could not figure out the reason for this. Now I understand.

Oh no! I was just thinking of you and wondering how you are. I'm so sorry about this! Yes, arm weights are a good thing. And you will burn some calories using the knee walker. (my BFF has one of these due to diabetic sores on her feet) Try to eat lots of salads, and stay away from sugar. If I have a large salad for lunch every day for a week, I lose weight. (You would think I would do this and lose it, wouldn't you?) Spark does have a lot of chair exercises, some of which you can probably do.

Hope you feel OK otherwise, and are not it too much pain

    Hello

So sorry about what happened! I agree with the others, the Spark seated workouts are great. Every once in a while I do the seated core workout at work when I have some time alone.

Don't restrict what you eat, just smaller portions and less of the unhealthy foods than the healthy foods. If you restrict yourself too much, you'll only want the unhealthy foods even more.

    Speedy recovery wishes!

I am so sorry to hear about this. Definitely do chair exercises. I believe Callenetics does some.

Sorry to hear of your accident. I say go with the chair exercises. Also, there are exercises for those with limited mobility. emoticon

Bless your heart, I am so sorry to hear of your injuries! emoticon I think others have mentioned chair exercises. They have quit a few on Youtube for free that you might like. You might want to watch and log all of your calories as you won't be as active and you might ask your doctor about adding in some extra calcium so your bones heal well.
    Hang in there! emoticon emoticon

Look up the seated core and seated cardio workouts. They are short, but very good. Sorry about your leg, I hope you get better soon.

Oh no that's so painful. Prayers that you heal properly and that you find some chair exercises so you don't gain the weight back. Hugs. emoticon

You can lift some weights while seated/laying down (bench presses, etc.). You can also do abs workouts (sit ups, pike crunches, double leg raises, ab hold etc.). If you have something nearby to grab onto, so you don't fall onto your injured leg, you can do some balance poses on your good leg. Maybe even some single leg squats? Stork stance with low row?

But yeah, there are chair exercises for this stuff, too. 'Worth a Google.
