Better, But Not Quite Where I Need To Be

Tuesday, February 24, 2015

Well, we came home a day early because the purpose of our travel was completed a day earlier than we had anticipated. I am grateful that we got everything done and had a safe trip.

The only downside to our travels was my eating less healthy foods than I have been. As I shared in my blog yesterday, I made terrible food choices, even worse than I thought as I was making them. I vowed to do better today, and did to some degree, but I still had some food items that were not a good choice. Because we were limited on time and were eating away from home, our overall food choices were more limited. The only thing that made my eating better today than yesterday is that we got home late afternoon, which allowed me to eat dinner at home instead of on the run. As a result, I had more fruit and protein for dinner than I had the day before.

None of this really surprised me, or anyone else I am sure, because I've known for many years that I don't eat as healthy when traveling. What should surprise me is that I don't think of that before I leave home and plan to take with me some healthy food choices so I don't rely on restaurant and/or fast food. Note to self: when planning a trip, include a plan for what foods I will eat.

I hear ya! We usually travel several times in winter to a ski area and always rent a home (not this year). Over the last couple of years we've begun eating in more and more, trying to see it as just like we'd eat at home, but a little more (skiing torches calories and makes us really hungry). But when we go to visit other people, we often end up eating out a lot more and it's VERY hard to choose something healthy with some menus. Especially night after night. So I'm glad you were at least tracking, that makes us aware of what we're doing. I believe I'll do the same with my upcoming trip. Thanks for the inspiration. No matter how off track I get, I'll just keep tracking. Thanks!

It really takes a constant plan and effort to eat healthy while traveling.
