Healthier Ways to Eat When Traveling

Well, I missed an opportunity to be successful in sticking with my healthier eating goal for two days this week. As I have mentioned in my blogs on Monday and Tuesday, my family was traveling away from home on those days, and I was off track in my eating both days. On Monday, I went off track significantly. On Tuesday, I went off track but not as much as the day before. The only difference in the two days from an eating perspective is that I ate out for all three meals on Monday, but was back at home in time to eat dinner at home on Tuesday.
Now, here is where I missed an opportunity. A SparkPeople article titled "Healthier Ways to Eat When Traveling" has good information and suggestions for how to eat healthy when traveling. However, it didn't occur to me to seek out the information before leaving town. I also didn't plan ahead of time what I would eat while away from home. Taking either or both of those two steps would have made a big difference in how well I kept to my goal.
Our trip was somewhat a last minute thing, so I could have the excuse that I didn't have time to seek out information or plan for my meals before I left home. That wouldn't really be accurate. I had enough time to pack my laptop computer and I had time to put water and other drinks in a cooler. With just a few more minutes invested either before leaving home or while traveling to our destination (another family member did the driving), I could have added some healthy foods to the cooler and could have searched SparkPeople for articles on eating healthy while traveling.
Now I know, so my next trip will be different.
