Wake up call
Tuesday, March 10, 2015
I have been having some chest pains off and on for a few weeks. It wouldn't last long and they weren't really strong' so I did worry too much about it. I saw my GYN on the 12th and she noticed I had an irregular heartbeat. She referredme to a cardiologist. I couldn't get to see him until the 16 th of this month.
Thursday morning I woke up with stronger pain in my chest than I have had. It did not go away. I called my husband and he took me to the ER. I didn't have any other symptoms of a heart attack. They ran tests, EKG and it was all okay. I had to stay overnight to have my cardiac enzymes monitored. The next morning I had to do the stress test on the treadmill. I did well on that and my heart recovered quickly after exercise which is a good thing. All those years of exercise have paid off!
I have a lot of risk factors for having heart disease. High cholesterol, high triglycerides, obesity, diabetes and family history. This was a scary wake up call for me. My husband and kids were scared. I don't want to go through that again or put them through it either. I am going to be really vigilant about eating well and exercising. I know losing weight will really help me feel better and hopefully live longer.
