Looking Forward To Spring And Summer

When we turned our clocks ahead to start Daylight Saving Time for 2015, it woke me up to the fact that spring is almost here, meaning no more figure-hiding coats and jackets. I love to sew and just finished making myself a new dress to wear to my granddaughter's wedding in May and my grandson's wedding in June. I put it on my dress form, which my kids named "Mabel" many years ago. I've always wanted my measurements to come as close to "Mabel's" as possible, but used to have to add an inch or two to anything I made for myself, because I wasn't quite as slender in the waist and hips as "Mabel" was. So after I saw how great my new dress looked on the dress form, I could hardly wait to try it on to see if it fit me as nicely as it did her. Hallelujah! It fit me perfectly and I'll really keep focused on calories and exercise to make sure it still looks as good on me in May and June as it does now. What a great motivation I have to "keep on keeping on" with my maintenance program. What's your motivation? Think about it.

Peggy, emoticon on maintaining, especially at such a well-proportioned figure. I like to sew garments myself, but I haven't created a "Mabel" yet. In fact, two years ago I made a duct tape dressform, and its shape motivated me to lose weight. Now I'm down to the size I am supposed to be, and my proportions look so much better. So in a couple of weeks, I'm going to a duct tape dressform ASG meeting, and will create my "after" form. But I have also decided to get a dressform from and fill out my fitting muslin on that.

I've always wanted to sew, but alas it was not meant to be. I love that you have that creative "thread." emoticon

My motivaion is sadly the many who won't or can't care abouut a healthy body. It reminds me of how easy it is to "lose" my grip on healthy!!
I like to think that the door swings both ways and all who don't will be seeing how good it feels to be healthy. So healthy, that you want to run, walk or hop on a bike.
    Thanks for sharing!!

Peggy, you and Mabel are quite a team! Bravo on reaching and keeping your health goals. You're an inspiration for us, and a lovely role model for your children and grandchildren, too.

My external motivations change according to the season, events, and (I admit it) my vanity, but my internal motivations are always the same: I want to feel strong and *really alive* until I die, and I want to show others--no matter their age--that they can, too! (Thanks for asking, and thanks for being here. :) )

Way to go, Peggy! I sew also, but I don't have a Mabel to help. I also have a family wedding this summer, and, yes, that's a big motivation for staying the course!

emoticon emoticon I always tried to learn how to sew but didn't have much patience when I was younger because I was left handed. Not sure what that would have to with sewing, but it did have a lot to do with other things I tried to learn how to do. Looks like you are really good at it! I hope you have a fun and safe trip! Enjoy the wedding! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Great motivation there, you and Mabel (which was my great grandmother's name, by the way). My motivation? Being active in my own crazy way, this year in particular, competing in August at the National Age Group Olympic distance Triathlon competition in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Healthy habits AND training a minimum requirement to pull that off!

Hope to continue to be ABLE to do this for years to come (maybe not with quite that big a stage, though)...

emoticon on your years of successful maintenance and being there for your grandchildren's coming of age!

Oh how I miss my dress form "Lady". I used to make all my clothes in my 20's. I haven't made very many outfits since then though! Great job on the blog. Looking forward to reading your adventures. You are doing a wonderful inspiration! :D

That's terrific: you're as slim as "Mabel"!! (my mother's name . . . ). And what marvellous occasions to look forward to wearing your new dress.

Your story is highly motivating -- I'm another person who keeps fit and trim for health reasons, but have to admit that pretty clothes/vanity help with the day to day vigilance!!

Yes yes yes! You keep that lovely figure so that Mabel doesn't get to wear the dress to those weddings.

LOL - what a super motivator!

    Congratulations! What a great motivator!

I had a Mexican vacation to look forward to that helped me stick to the healthy habits I have developed since joining Spark. It felt good to NOT have to get strict about my food and exercise before a big event. I just had to keep doing what I was doing!

    Way to go!

Yes! We are all looking forward to spring!

Here in central Texas we are getting a head start. Fruit trees are in bloom as well as pansies on our front porch. We are finally able to eat out on our deck under awning from bright sun. Even the birds are chirping up a storm. :)

Then in May we return to our summer home in the north and enjoy arrival of spring all over again. Our goal always is to return in time to plant our garden there as well!

We enjoy each day given to us, where ever we are!
