March 13, 2015 DON’T FIGHT
Thinking back on our childhood, we probably heard adults telling us not to fight with others. We were still growing up and learning how to not be selfish and want our own way. We were still young and trying to figure out how to be kind and loving rather than quarreling with everyone. We were still learning about how difficult some people are and how to deal with them. As adults, we know these things now. It’s time we stopped fighting about wanting our own way and let others see Jesus’ in us.
2 Timothy 2:24 “A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, we come to You asking for patience when dealing with others. Show us today opportunities to be kind, to teach and be patient with even the most difficult people in our lives. We all have them. They may be at home. They may be at work or school. They may be with us all day long. Show us how to practice patience so they see You in us and we can lead them closer to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
When we focus on not fighting and getting our way, we can better practice patience.
We are not to quarrel but to show kindness, love and patience.
When we quarrel with others, we are practicing worldly ways.
Fighting reveals two who are unwilling to show patience.
When we want to quarrel rather than be patient, we are being controlled by our sinful nature.
1 Corinthians 3:3 “for you are still controlled by your sinful nature. You are jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn’t that prove you are controlled by your sinful nature? Aren’t you living like people of the world?” (NLT)
Focus: We should let go of the fight over trivial things and allow God’s patience to work through us.
