March 14, 2015 KEEP WATCH AND PRAY
To be successful in guarding others, we have to watch. We have to be aware and alert. That does require discipline and patience. It requires discipline as we need to stay focused and it requires patience because most of the time nothing will happen. Most of the time all will be well. However, we need to be ready for when something does happen. That is why we need to keep watch and pray. We need to guard our hearts knowing that when temptation comes, we will be ready to be strong and not give in.
Matthew 26:41 “Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!” (NLT)
Dear Lord, our spirit is willing to obey You. Our heart longs to love You. Our minds want to worship You. However, our body is weak. We aren’t strong without You. When we stray from You, we mess up. Remind us all through the day to keep watch and pray so we may not give into temptation but remember You want us to obey and live for You. Remind us to guard our hearts from this world and fill them with Your word and Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
When we keep watch and pray it will be easier to see the wrong and turn from it.
It takes patience to say no when others want us to join in with them in sin.
Good things really do come to those who wait.
The rewards of being patient and praying rather than sinning are too great to fully understand.
Truly protecting our hearts requires God to be in our lives.
Proverbs 4:23 “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” (NLT)
Focus: When we make the decision to guard our hearts, our heads will be protected as well.
