Another goal reached

Monday, March 30, 2015

It was a really great weekend as I reached a long term goal and also got to do something I would never have dreamed of.

The first is with the help of SP. I have been tracking 10k steps a day plus since I joined SP way back in July 2012. I try to make curtain that I do at least 10K but my record it 33k which is hard to do.

Last year I add up all of my step (using Excel) and it came to a little over 10 million which nearly knocked me off of my feet (some 10 or 11 pairs of shoes / trainers). This got me thinking that it would be nice to set a goal of 15 million. Well this weekend I made that (plus wearing out another 5 or so pairs of trainers).

Now I have to set my goal at 20 million but who knows when I will get there and of course the cost of trainers.

The second thing I got to do was a little more interesting and has a story.

For the last 4 years our BBC2 TV channel has been putting on a show to get schools and youngsters involved into astronomy. My local society has been taking part putting on shows. Last Saturday was one of them. This took place in a school hall with me getting anyone who wanted to making moon creates. This involved dropping marbles into flour to show what happened.

Then it got interesting as our chairman came across with something very interesting a very small lump of rock. It turns out that it was a piece of the our Moon. It had a certificate to prove it. We all go to hold this in our hands.

Now I had trouble with the picture as they have been taken off of a video but I hope that you can see them.

Moon Rock, look how small it is

The certificate

All in all a good weekend

Wow! You make great goals! emoticon emoticon

It's funny how you mentioned how many pairs of shoes you went through. emoticon

Do you have a favorite brand that lasts the longest? I have trouble with shoes losing their cushioning really soon. Maybe I stomp when I walk, that may be part of the problem, I don't know. Nike's don't last long enough for me. I'm going to try New Balance soon, I think, or some generic brand.

Cool about the moon rock! What is it made of? Is it metallic?

All those steps. What a remarkable feet ! oops ~ I mean feat. emoticon

It's just as impressive that you chose to work with the students. No matter where they call home, they need to realize and know how much more is out there than what happens in their neighborhoods. emoticon

Congratulations on your achievement. Have you calculated where those steps (miles) would take you on the trek across the USA?

Hmm. At approximately 2000 steps per mile and the journey is a bit more than 4000 miles on the route we're taking. Well, I'll leave the result up to you.

Cool about the moon rock. My DH was one of the team at Grumman Aerospace working on the Lunar Module. I don't have a moon rock, but I did have a lot of scrap discarded mylar. It made great shimmering Halloween costumes when the kids were young. They looked like spacemen.

Wow, congrats on the steps! That's a wonderful achievement, regardless of the added cost of all those trainers/shoes!

I'd so love to be able to hold that moon rock for a moment, as you did. So cool! I enjoy anything space-related, such as that. I collect tektites (natural glass formed by flying debris caused by extraterrestrial impacts to the earth). Largest one I have is 5 inches long and shaped like an icicle.

Congratulations on all those steps. I entered a radio contest last week and won a new pair of shoes from a running store. Perhaps I should challenge myself like you did to see how many steps I can achieve over a period of time. emoticon
