A prayer for Johnathan
Monday, April 06, 2015
Some of you may have read my post yesterday where my co-worker Heather's 19 year old son Johnathan was beat up and died as a result of head injuries. I am happy to report they did pick up the other kid that did this to him. He's only 18. They are charging him with reckless homicide and he will be arraigned in court today.
It's hard to believe that actions like this have ruined not only one life (Johnathan's) but also Justin's. He will face a long road ahead too. If I were in Heather's shoes I don't know how I would feel. My feelings would certainly be a mixed bag of emotions. "I lost my son, yet he saved 8 other people's lives by being a donor", "I want my son to have justice but I know it's not right to harbor ill feelings towards anyone". The real test for Johnathan's family will be being able to find the compassion to forgive. How differently would this scenario have played out if it would have been two guys just wrestling around and this happened that he would have hit his head and died from those injuries vs being jumped on a road for no other reason. Does the word hate come to mind while reading this? It does for me. I'm praying that Heather's family can move forward and know that God will give them peace.
