As some of you know I design and sell jewelry.
I had a three day craft show last month. During that show I realized that I had to reconfigure how I set up my booth. It was getting too crowded. Also sometimes I don't have three open sides . That means I have to have some displays that go up not out. Customers have to enter into the booth area.
I had been looking at shelving units, Need some that are easy to set up, light weight but still sturdy. I had figured to spend max $200.00, for display units.
Also looking for other possible items that could be incorporated into displaying pieces of jewelry.
When you set up a booth, you have to make it attractive, you want to attract a buyer , and they are walking by , maybe in the center of the aisle and only have a glance to draw their attention your way.
Something has to stand out. If you try to put too much in one space it becomes a blur , looks junky.
That's why I use risers to create a upper row that is at eye level.
Yesterday it was noon and I got an urge to hit a thrift store I haven't been to for months.
The Teen Challenge Thrift Store.
They aren't that good for clothes, but furniture and odds and ends .
I also planned to hit some Goodwill's.
I found the perfect shelving unit at Teen Thrift, for $9.99.
I got it into van in one piece. Today it was stuck, couldn't get it out. Got some screw drivers, though I would have to dismantle it. I got to pulling hard on it and found it came apart. That is exactly what I needed.
I also found three rattan trays graduated sizes. I think they will be good for displays. Standing up they will be good backdrop for earrings, necklaces,
They were $9.00 for the set.
The little wicker tray/basket, will use to display bracelets. I always have some inexpensive bracelets for the kids to choose from. Cost $.99.
Found this satin, jeweled box. I think it has a Victorian look to it.
I don't do too much Victorian, but what I have will look great hanging from the box, with bracelets, earrings scattered near. Maybe some lace dollies. A little Victorian display. . That way that jewelry will be in it's own little area.
Just like I use stone pottery and branches to display my south/western pieces.
Here's what I found.
Today was the seniors 40% off. Did not plan to shop.
Had to go to bank, had some fraudulent charges posted and needed to arrange to cancel card, get a new one.
I had already spent over an hour on the phone with the companies trying to get charges removed and I was somewhat stressed and annoyed.
I left the bank, headed for the park, a good walk with Titan would relax me. But at the last minute I turned right instead of left and headed to Value Village.
I did walk Titan when we got there. There is a area with trees, grass that Titan likes to walk
By now it's 10:30, most good thing picked over.
I headed to the back, might as well see if there is anything I can use for display, but nothing stood out.
Thought about browsing the books, buy 3, get 4th free, but didn't.
Found a $ .99 tray organizer, cost me. $.60 . Use in my jewelry/craft room. Hold supplies.
Looked at the jewelry, found some chains with suede. they are necklaces, but I will use them to make wrap bracelets. Add more leather, chain, charm, clasps and will be great, I like to repurpose items. They are new, With my discount of 40% cost me $2.20 each.
Had to buy this big gorgeous tassel
. Cost #2.20.
I browsed the aisles, not finding anything.
Heard an announcement, new shoes being put out.
Since I was right there, I had first pick. Can't pass up my Bling. My cost $6.00.
Got these pretty pale pink rhinestone studded wedge's.
Picked up a black blouse and some jersey pj bottoms. Cost. $5.00 for both.
Was ready to leave when my eye spied this handbag, Yeah, it's now hanging in my closet.
Pretty black/beige. A really expensive bag. My cost $6.00.
At the side of the bag photo , is a hippie style suede fringed belt. Somehow the 60's just keep hanging in there. I saw that belt and knew it was meant to be mine.
That's me Second Hand Chic.
I went out Monday night to a retirement party.
Got lots of compliments on how nice I looked.
Wore the new black pants and black/white blouse from my last thrift blog. With my Cole Hawn sandals that I got last year.
I was dressed in $2,00 chic. Pants, original $100.00,Blouse $29.00, shoes $125.00. Handbag, $45.00. . Original store cost, $299.00. My thrift cost, $8.00. My bra and knickers cost three times that. For they come from Victoria's Secret.
I love to bargain shop.
I did pass up a beautiful turquoise blue suede designer jacket today. It would have cost me $24.00 with my 40% off, I thought I don't really need it. Now if I can catch it at $2.00, you bettcha I will add it to my leather collection.
Tomorrow is $2.00 day. But the half price items were silver tagged and I didn't see much that was still available, so don't think I'll bother .
Of course I could get that shopping urge and who knows.
Wish that urge to go to a certain shop would also apply to buying a lottery ticket. It would be nice to have a few million dollars. But I would still thrift shop, it's like a game, I always feel like a winner.
So my fellow Sparkers, hope you are doing your best to be your best.
Peace and love.
