A couple months ago, after I had fractured my arm, my husband decided that he really needed to work on his portion sizing. I had been trying to do that for myself and he didn't always make it easy. But at that point he was ready and he was on a mission. So over the length of my healing we really worked on food choices and amounts. We didn't take anything out per say, we still love us some ice cream, we just seriously cut back. Through this change I lost 7lbs with very little exercise during the healing time. It was just too painful to exercise longer than 20 minutes. It's amazing how much your arm moves while walking or riding the stationary bike. And my favorite, weight lifting, was simply not allowed.
Today I was giving the all clear. I can return to life as normal. I can do dishes again and I can fold laundry. My husband did really good the first 4 weeks with all of it, but the last couple he's not put much effort in. I have piles of clean clothes around my bedroom and in my closet. *sigh* That NEEDS to change quickly. I really sweat on Saturday when I was walking on the treadmill and riding the stationary bike. I LOVED it. I kept looking longingly at the weights at the gym though LOL. Today I had another revelation too, I really can not physically eat much at that point in one sitting. Today for lunch I had a can of tuna with a little miracle whip on it and I wrap it in lettuce to eat it. I couldn't finish the can of tuna. So at that point I couldn't have any of my grapefruit either. I'll have my grapefruit as an afternoon snack.
Last night I started to realize all this. I had an interview at lunch and all my nervous energy all I ate for lunch was a banana and a small naked green machine. By 4pm when I was off work I had only eaten 500 calories and my stomach was growling. I knew there was nothing ready made at home and I really wanted chicken, so I stopped by McDonalds and I got a chicken wrap. I couldn't finish the wrap and then wasn't hungry the rest of the night. My husband had wanted ice cream, but he decided to go to bed instead. He also said no when I asked him earlier in the night if he wanted seconds. Well, his actually words were yes, I want them but no I do not need them. I'm very proud of us as a couple.
Now with the all clear to go back to normal activity I am excited to start exercising for reals again. Tonight that won't happen because I'll be cleaning the house in prep for my mother in law to come tomorrow and visit and then we are going to see the AVENGERS!!!!!! But this might be the first time ever that I can say I am excited to do dishes when I get home from work. YAY! I just need to remember to ease in to using my arm again. I don't need to over do it and ache. I can't wait to put on my lifting gloves and pick things up and put them down!
