So out of shape...again!

I walked the dog for a mile...then left him at home and tried jogging a mile. It was very humid out with storm clouds and I can tell the allergens were full force. I did the mile in 13 minutes and 30 seconds. Not bad... But I had to walk several times to catch my breath!

(Note: for some reason, my mile times are faster on pavement than on treadmill. Is this true for other people?)

Later in the day, I headed to the gym. I jogged (mostly) for 2 miles. I was surprised and dismayed that my heart rate was over 170! Typically, before getting so sick, at that speed, I would be in the mid 150s.

Well, I guess this is a goal to work at it and get my heart rate back down!!!

Overall today, I did 5 miles!!! I feel mostly great, just a little soreness in my left foot from an old sprain several years ago....

    It takes awhile to come back after an illness. Slow steady progress is best even if we get impatient about it.

    I find that I can run faster on pavement than a treadmill too, although I think most people find it the opposite.

    Goodness me! I wish I had your energy. I'm sure your heart rate will improve very quickly. I wish I could jog. I'm a walker, but I've been seriously contemplating adding at least a few yards of jogging every once in a while. I'm amazed at how much my fitness has improved in only 5 months of walking, but the jogging part kind of scares me a little. I have a much younger friend who jogs five miles a day. I'm very envious, but so far haven't gotten up the nerve to try it.
