My Secret - Doing Something I've Never Done

Thursday, May 21, 2015

I have a secret.

I've never been able to run a mile. Never. I walk. Throughout my life, I've been more active, I've been less active -- and I've been inactive! But the hurdle I've never been able to get over is that mile run.

So here's my chance. I am training to run that mile. I don't want to to run it in a certain time - at least not at first. I just want to finish. Run without stopping.

Right now I walk and run on my treadmill and at a local park. I can run for two minutes straight (a couple of weeks ago, it was only a minute) and I can run 1/8 of a mile at the park.

But next week it'll be 2-1/2 minutes. Or 3. And perhaps it'll be 1/8 of a mile plus a few steps. A little at a time.

Because I'm going to do something I've never done before in my life. And how great is that.

And who knows. After that mile run is behind me, maybe I'll find something else I've never done before -- and do it!

Thank you -- my goal is to participate in a 5K in the fall -- I am not sure I'll be able to run the whole distance, but it is helpful to have that to motivate me.

Here is a link to a website which has lots of tips on how to begin to run. It also has a couch to 5K running program. It will help you in lots of ways. I used to run half marathons 3 years ago before I injure my back and it was so wonderful. I miss it so much! You are in for a wonderful journey and experience. Lots of fun walk/races you can enter. You don't have to run/jog the whole thing and they will provide you with goals and activities for you to shoot for emoticon Good luck.
