June 14, 2015 BE BAPTIZED
When we have an idea and work hard to see it implemented but tell no one about it, no one will know what we have done. No one will be able to congratulate us. No one will be able to support us. Completing a project is a good feeling. However, if it is not known to others and it isn’t used, what good is it really? The same with our faith. We can have faith in God, repent of our sins and be forgiven but if we don’t publicly confess and be baptized, who is going to know of our decision? Baptism shows we have confessed our sins, been forgiven and want to be obedient to God.
Luke 3:3 “Then John went from place to place on both sides of the Jordan River, preaching that people should be baptized to show that they had repented of their sins and turned to God to be forgiven.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, we know You give us so many directions in Your word. We have instructions from You to be kind. We have commands to do good to others and love them. We have rules to obey that are good for us because You love us. We know You didn’t put anything in Your word that we need to overlook and think it doesn’t apply to us. Help us to keep the ritual of baptism as an act of obedience to You for new believers to show their decision and their commitment to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
When we are baptized, we are telling others we are committed to being obedient to God.
Confessing and repenting of our sins brings forgiveness from God.
Baptism shows we have confessed our sins, been forgiven and want to follow Jesus.
Baptism is a symbol of what God has already done in our lives.
It is written in God’s word that we must repent and turn to God and be baptized.
Acts 2:38 “Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (NLT)
Focus: If we want to live as God has called us to live, we need His forgiveness and His Holy Spirit in our lives.
