June 18, 2015 ADDICTIONS
We all like to be in control. We like the feeling of doing what we want when we want. We like having freedom and choices. However, many times, our choices for freedom, or escape, will lead us to addictions. We are all controlled by something or someone whether we want to admit it or not. When we attempt to be in control we tend to lean on something to help us – our addiction. However, God is who we need to lean on. God is who we need to take control. When we submit our lives to Him, He will forgive us and help us with our addictions.
1 Corinthians 10:13 “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” (NLT)
Dear Lord, we know we all have something that controls us. It may be money or work. It may be alcohol or drugs. It may be food or some other addiction. Help us to recognize our addictions, turn from them and turn to You. We know anything we do in excess is bad for us and can keep us from doing Your will. Show us today how to resist the temptation of addiction and give us something positive to replace it with. We turn from it today, ask for Your forgiveness and for Your help. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
God will forgive us for our additions and He wants us to submit our lives to Him so He can help us.
We should want to help others get past their addictions forgive them.
God will show us a way out from the temptation of addiction when we have faith in Him.
Despite what we are going through, turning to the things of the world is not the answer. God is.
We should forgive those with addictions and help them rather than treat them in a way that leads them back to that sin.
Luke 17:1 “One day Jesus said to his disciples, ‘There will always be temptations to sin, but what sorrow awaits the person who does the tempting!’” (NLT)
Focus: God will forgive us for our addictions when we confess them and turn to Him.
