Question for anyone who may have an answer

My husband and I had a short conversation tonight about more exercise but in different locations, like a get away on a constant basis. The idea of getting a camper was from my husband. He is very enthusiastic about the idea. But, we have no idea where to begin to know what we need to know about getting one, renting one or owning one.
We are tossing around the idea of looking for a nice, newer camper that hitches to a pick up truck hitch. One we can stand up in lol. Sleep in with hard sides, NOT vinyl/canvas like a pop up. That can sleep maybe 3 people. Kitchen and bathroom areas would be nice but not a must. Wondering what they run in price. We are NOT looking for a huge one. But maybe about half the size of an RV +/-.
Now, I am not looking to go to an RV/camper lot because that is too overwhelming at this point. And RV/camper shows aren't until January and February around here. I know about looking at ads for people selling them also. I am wondering what we should and should not be looking for in one from people who have had past experience with them. Wondering what insurance typically runs on it also. Any type of info on this subject would be nice.
We have tent camped for many years. The past couple years we rented cabins. Hotels are often used but old hubby feels we would be out and about more on adventures if we had a camper. So, it is homework time. Any info on what to watch out for or what to remember to look for would be great!
Hope to hear from many of you! THANKS! The following picture is sort of an idea of what we are thinking about more or less.
