For the third year,The Governor John Butler Smith (John Stetser) and his wife Emma E. Lavender Smith (Jackie Stetser) return to Hillsboro to provide tours through the Pine Hill Cemetery and the Pierce Homestead nieghborhood. Pine Hill Cemetery is located about a mile from the Franklin Pierce Homestead. It is named for the pine trees surrounding its location, was in use from 1788 to 1976. Franklin Pierce’s father, Governor Benjamin Pierce, his mother, Anna Kendrick Pierce and many other members of the Pierce family are buried in this graveyard. The bus ride to and from the cemetery along with the tour, takes about an hour.

Helping people to understand more the rich Hillsboro heritage is a great treat! When we understand out past, we can move into our future responsibly and successfully.
