Dog on My Doorstep!
Tuesday, August 25, 2015
I had a dog show up on my doorstep yesterday morning bright and early. He was whining outside our door so DH got up to investigate. Turns out he was severely injured.
We initially thought that he may have been hit by a vehicle passing by. We weren't really sure. I called our vet who informed us they couldn't take him because of liability. I couldn't afford to accrue a huge vet bill since I already have 2 dogs of my own....SO, I was in a really bad place...I wasn't sure what to do. I called around to some shelters to see if I could get the poor guy some help with no luck. Most were full, so they wouldn't take him or said they would euthanize him and I didn't feel like he was that severe. He could walk and would eat and drink. Needless to say, I had to go to work and so did my DH, so we decided to wait it out and see how he held up until this morning. I know it sounds crazy to pray for a dog, but I did. I felt SO bad for this poor guy.
I went on to work and it was a fill-in pharmacist for the day who actually fosters animals. She said she would call her vet and she would take him in temporarily until he could get adopted. She volunteers with a no-kill shelter that fosters animals out and was able to get him in this a.m. to her vet. I just had to drive him there this morning. It was about an hour away, but well worth it to get him the medical care he needed. It turns out, that he was not hit by a vehicle after all.
He. Had. Been. BURNED!! Let that sink in....someone took hot water, coffee, tea...some kind of boiling hot liquid and threw it at or on him and burned him!!!!! It angers me to think someone could be SO cruel! Why this guy decided to come to me, I will never know, but I am glad he did and I am glad I was able to find him help. He is going to get better with time. He NEVER once snapped, nipped, or bit at ANY of us while loading him, while they bathed him, or while they administered medication. He came back negative for intestinal worms and parasites and he did not have heartworms. He got all of his shots today as well. He received a very good bill of health considering what he had just been through. He is a very gentle dog and was VERY friendly to my children. The vet said he was around 10 months to 1 year of age.
Here is another picture of him:
He needs to be adopted though. If you know anyone in the Ridgeland/Briarwood area of Jackson, Mississippi who would like to take in the precious dog, please let me know. We need to find him a good loving home.
