How Far Away??????

Monday, September 07, 2015

My husband and I were talking about the location of our mailbox this morning during breakfast. It is located across the road from the entrance to our driveway. We don't mind the walk down the hill to get our mail, but the highway we have to cross to get to the mailbox is a very busy one. Add to that, because we are on a hill, we can't see what is coming until it is almost on us and the drivers are going 55 mph at the least. We called the Post Office to see if our mailbox could be moved to the end of the driveway on our side of the road. The answer was NO and I never did get an answer that made sense as to WHY!!! So, I suggested to my husband, that we dress in our rattiest pajamas and when the complaints started to come in, maybe a change would be made!!!!!

Then I read my emails this morning, and my BIL had sent me the following:

The location of your mailbox shows you how far away from your house you can be in a robe, before you start looking like a mental patient.

NOW I'M REALLY MOTIVATED!!!!!

A friend had a similar situation and tried to get it changed, but no luck. The Post Office seems to be inflexible.

Oh my gosh, I'd be donning the rattiest PJ's possible! Love the "walking out there naked" the P.O. would change their mind really quickly from complaints! OR maybe there WOULDN'T be complaints. LOL

My parents get mail in their mailbox for all three houses on their driveway, and have to take the neighbors their mail.

Loved the blog! In my neighborhood, the group of mailboxes on our cul-de-sac were moved to my property after there were several cars that ran into the boxes when it was located on my neighbor's property (his home is on a downhill grade, and in icy weather people just were skidding into the boxes!) -- so running over the mail box ALSO works for getting it relocated!

    Hi Patti,

As I am not familiar with why the Post Office cannot do that for you, I talked to my hubby. He explained to me that in the country they set up the route based on the roads that have houses and typically they do not necessarily travel any road in each direction.

Apparently, they save on their gas and you have to go through danger to get your mail was my thought.

I wish they would change their mind to accommodate the danger you have to go through.

Take care & hope you are having a blast on this special day! emoticon

emoticon You need to take a selfie so we can see you at the mailbox waving to your neighbors. We just moved and we have three mailboxes in our front yard because all the mailboxes are on the same side of the street. Drives me crazy when I'm trying to mow.

Seems like they would want to make it safer for you to get your mail. Probably has something to do with the route they drive to deliver mail. Shouldn't be a big deal to turn around and put mail in your box.

I had a similar situation with my parent's. They had a P.O Box and had to walk to the post office across a busy street. As they got older they wanted a mailbox in front of their house. The Post Office made an exception, just made their house the last house on that route for delivery.

I bet if you start walking out there naked you would have it changed in no time at all. Hahaha!
