Dinner in Japan
Thursday, September 10, 2015
I just arrived back in Japan last night. It's been a whirlwind of arrival, jet lag, settling in, waiting for luggage and household goods delivery, and trying to stock a pantry from scratch. I thought it would be fun to post my dinners so far.
This one is my dinner on the plane (of course). I felt like trying a special meal, but it kind of seemed like cheating. I don't have any medical/religious reasons for a special meal. So, I picked the low calorie meal. It turned out to be low fat. I actually enjoyed it! As far as plane meals go, it was pretty good. All the meals were good, but there was an abundance of chicken.'
We finally got to our apartment last night at 8:30. Several teachers are living in the same building where I'm living, so we got together and went out to dinner. This is okonomiyaki. It's not the healthiest, but it does have redeeming qualities. First, it's delicious. Second, it's made with good stuff like cabbage and eggs and protein. Finally, it's really delicious!
Today, I finally went to the store. Actually, we went to several stores. I walk and carry stuff everywhere, so by the time I got to the grocery store, I had to shop judiciously! Once I got home, I had to wait for my dishes to arrive. They were supposed to arrive between 6 and 8, but it was well after 8 before anything arrived. When the dishes came, I quickly made some shougayaki (pork with ginger). I was too tired to make anything else, so I just had that with some lemon ginger water. It was so nice to have home food.
So, here we are! Looking forward to another shop tomorrow and getting used to cooking for myself again!
