September 13, 2015 FALSE TEACHERS
We have heard and seen teachers and preachers whose teaching is wrong. They teach us things for their own gain and not for the glory of God. They tell others what they want to hear so they can lead them down a path that will cause their followers to do what will be beneficial to them, not God. Those false teachers want to gain favor from those who are listening and pull them away from God. It is in our interest to know God’s word so we can better recognize who are the false teachers in this world.
Galatians 4:17 “Those false teachers are so eager to win your favor, but their intentions are not good. They are trying to shut you off from me so that you will pay attention only to them.” (NLT)
Galatians 4:17 “They zealously affect you, but not well; yea, they would exclude you, that ye might affect them.” (KJV)
Dear Lord, there are people in this world who are eager to lead us down the wrong path. There are people who are selfish and want others to believe they care about them and love them when instead they are just looking at what it is in it for them. Help us to recognize those who are false teachers and to help others to know it as well. We know we need to know You and Your word in order to be aware of those who are teaching against Your word. Draw us close to You, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
If we know God’s truth we will be better able to recognize false teachers in this world.
God’s word is truth and anyone who teaches against His word is leading people astray.
People who teach against God’s word are looking to get something from those who follow them.
We should practice learning God’s truths so we can discern the true biblical teachers from the false ones.
We are not to encourage those who say they are teachers of God’s word but do not teach His truths.
2 John 1:10 “If anyone comes to your meeting and does not teach the truth about Christ, don’t invite that person into your home or give any kind of encouragement.” (NLT)
Focus: False teachers want to lead others away from God. When we know God’s word, we will recognize false teachers.
