According to the News Reports in our area, there is a definite threat to our pets from the Coyote population. We are encroaching on their habitat and many of them have become quite adapted to urban areas. Just this past week, there was a small Poodle who was killed in her back yard, just minutes after her owners had let her outside. This was also during the day!!! This is a time of year when the Spring Cubs are learning to hunt, so the danger is more prevalent. The owners called a local TV Station and reported the incident, so that there would be more awareness of the problem. A couple with a miniature Schnauzer saw the story and when they let their dog out later that night, they both went with him and actually ended up chasing a Coyote who had come within 10 feet of their dog............and this also happened in an urban area. The warnings have stated that the most dangerous time to let your pets out alone are from just after dark until sunrise. Coyotes are USUALLY nocturnal, but we have seen them during the day around our area. I am so nervous about this situation, that I only let our Cairn Terrier out if one of us will be in the yard near him. We live in the country and are surrounded by woods, fields and thick brush........a Coyote could be on our dog without us even seeing him coming.

I have NOTHING against Coyotes. They are only doing what comes natural to them........but we have forced them into areas where there are more small children and pets and we have to be aware.

Now...........Have a Great Weekend. But also stay vigilant.
