4 More Days!

Yesterday was the first day of my last week of Zombies, Run! Couch to 5k. I decided to move my run outside for the last week and here on out. Until now, I have been running on a small track inside. I've been thinking of moving outside for some time now. Running inside was comforting because I didn't want the world to see me struggle to run for 30 seconds. It was a nice controlled environment. Finally, though, I worked up the courage to move outside.
Part of it is because the benefits of running outside started to outweigh my fear. It's a really small track, one mile is 16 laps. My GPS doesn't work very well inside the gym, so I haven't really had any idea how fast or far I was going. I don't have the patience to count laps and keeping track of that makes the run drag on. I would count a bit to try to figure out my pace, but I certainly didn't want to count every single lap. Running outside, my GPS worked great. I didn't need to track my pace or my distance. I just looked it up on my phone after I was done with my run. Another reason I need to move outside is that I won't always have a track to run on. My time out here is coming to an end and the gym I (can afford to) use in Denver is small with no track to run on. I'll have to run outside when I get back home. I'd also like to try the Turkey Trot this year. I certainly can't run in circles on a track for that.
Switching to outside was tough, but not as tough as I thought it would be. I had to stop and walk for 3 minutes during my 20 minute free form run. I was disappointed at the time but, honestly, that's not too bad. It's just 3 minutes. There were a couple other times I had to walk for a few steps/slow down because it was dark and I couldn't keep an eye on my footing. Running outside is way more unpredictable. There's hills, curbs, rocks, cars, and dogs. Despite all that, I'm excited to see how the rest of this week goes. My first try at running 5k is Friday. It's so close!!! Fingers crossed!
